The Next Run by Tom Jenkins book cover.

A new memoir by Tom Jenkins

Tom starts by smuggling pot hidden in cars and graduates to planes, much of this while taking a full course load at UC Berkeley. A half ton of grass is stolen and two months later, after finishing finals, he tries to track down the grass in a hunt that takes on Sherlock Holmes proportions. His roommate “jumps” his Mexican contacts to start a heroin smuggling operation, which Tom vows to stop. The plane runs fall through and Tom resorts to wading sacks through the Rio Grande. Tom then goes straight and starts a Mexican clothes importing business with his girlfriend. His reputation in the smuggling world persists, though, and he accepts an invitation to head the Colombian end of a plane operation with bales dropped to waiting speedboats off the coast of Florida. At the same time, his Mexican contacts begin sending him tons at a time transported in semis past a bribed customs official. Tom's next move stuns the smuggling world.
